East Boise Spinal Decompression

The East Boise Clinic is now offering spinal decompression witht the Triton DTS.

Spinal Decompression

Triton DTS Spinal Decompression Therapy is FDA cleared and has been clinically proven for pain associated with herniated or bulging discs even after failed surgery.  It is a non-surgical, computerized traction therapy for the relief of back and leg pain or neck and arm pain.

The key difference between regular traction and Spinal Decompression Therapy is the Triton DTS computer. It controls the variations in the traction pull allowing for spinal decompression that eliminates muscle guarding that is typical in conventional traction devices. The preprogrammed patterns for ramping up and down the amount of axial distraction allows for higher levels of spinal decompression and disc rehydration.

During the procedure, by cycling through distraction and relaxation phases and by proper positioning, a spinal disc can be isolated and placed under negative pressure, causing a vacuum effect within it.  The vacuum effect allows the disc component- that has protruded or herniated outside the normal confines of the disc - to be pulled back within the disc.

The discs of the spine receive nourishment through blood vessels until approximately the age of 20. At this point, the disc has been filled with a lifetime supply of nourishment. However, the disc has to make that supply of nourishment last a lifetime. Through aging and with normal wear and tear, we use the nourishment and all experience a slow degeneration of the discs of the spine.  This is normal aging. The more “stress” you put on the disc, the more you use up the nourishment, weakening and deteriorating the disc, creating a problem. One of the amazing benefits of decompression is that it heightens the disc space, and is seen to return it to normal size and function.

Spinal Discs

The picture above shows a herniated disc.  Some people are confused between the difference between a herniated disc and a bulging disc. A disc can bulge without herniating. When the jelly- like nucleus pulposis is under pressure, it can bulge. But, when the pressure is excessive, it can herniated (rupture) through the outer band called the annulus fibrosis. As the "herniated" disc material spills out, a portion can press on a nerve, causing pain and accompanying radiation and weakness of the muscles involved.

Dr. Ricks will take a thorough initial history, perform a physical evaluation, review all data and combine it with any complexities involved, then use the information to make certain the patient qualifies for the decompression procedure.
