We all know what paralysis means. When you’re single and you see an attractive individual, you’re intention is to approach them. Unfortunately, your ability to operate your legs is temporarily suspended. Perhaps this attractive individual finds their way to you. Your ability to operate your jaws is also suspended. Perhaps by sheer force of will you are able to overcome this paralysis, but to your own dismay you fail to arrange your words into complete sentences. This is a paralysis that is experienced on a wide scale. Physical paralysis is less common and and exponentially more serious.

Paralysis is the inability to move a certain area of the body. In most cases, the cause is nerve damage. Certainly, no one intends to be paralyzed. However, there are certain ways to reduce the risk of ever experiencing paralysis. Some things are more likely to result in paralysis than others. Examining the common causes of paralysis can prove useful.

  1. Automobile accidents. No surprises here. High speed collisions with large and heavy metal machines causes damage. It often causes fatalities, and is a large contributor to cases of paralysis. Sometimes tragedy is out of our control. All we can do to avoid it is buckle up, stay alert, and utilize safe driving practises behind the wheel.

  2. Violence. Be nice to people. Don’t make any mortal enemies. And avoid situations that may end violently.

  3. Sports injuries. Hang gliding and extreme surfing are hazardous to your health. Full contact sports are not likely to end in paralysis, but maybe just stick to bowling and horseshoes to be on the safe side.

  4. Stroke. Keep yourself healthy. Eat healthy, and exercise. You might just be genetically predisposed to suffer a stroke in your old age, but you can certainly decrease your risk with a healthy lifestyle..

  5. Disease. Now we are for the most part past the preventable. Multiple sclerosis, cerebral palsy, post polio syndrome, and other diseases that attack the nervous system can cause paralysis.
